Care Visions is a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ Foster Carers. We want to ensure that individuals and couples who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, non-binary, and transgender feel welcome and supported when fostering with us. We also want to ensure that young people feel supported and understood in all areas around their identity.
Offering Staff and Foster Carer training on LGBTQ+ Awareness is just one of the areas of support we are proud to have brought into our organisation. We understand that, like all inclusive agencies, we need to strive for continued representation and leadership in this area.
We are fortunate to have a good working relationship with LGBTQ+ hubs, like The Hive LGBT+ Centre, in Kirkcaldy, Fife, where we have been able to use their safe space for sessions and training. We kindly thank them and Pink Saltire’s, Stuart Duffy for letting us signpost to their recommended list of supportive services available in the Fife area and also throughout Scotland. These include:
Pink Saltire
The Hive - Fifes LGBT+ Centre
Frontline Fife - Homelessness, Housing Advice, Short-term Housing Support, and Addictions Support
Transgender Fife
Hive Happy Heads Youth Group
LGBT Youth Scotland
Four Pillars – Supporting Grampian’s LGBT+ Community
Dumfries & Galloway LGBT Plus
We believe that when young people are surrounded by successful adults who share similar experiences, they feel less isolated and alone. Also, living with adults who have different identities and life experiences can also enrich a young person's perspective and understanding of others.
With placements, we are aware that some young people will need supported in areas around their identity. Better informed Foster Carers along with external support, like those mentioned above, can help allow for that level of care. This ultimately can help lead to young people thriving and reaching their full potential in that safe, supportive, loving, and understanding environment.
